Q: I have a “water barrier” type system and researched it before deciding on using this product. Generally problems occur around opening, like windows. My home is 5 years old and no problems are evident.

A: Although some water barrier systems are working, many have failed. So, you’ll want to take every precaution to keep your system in working order. Every 6 months you should have a synthetic stucco-certified home inspector take a look at the exterior of your home. Any damage, cracks, etc. should be fixed as quickly as possible.

The American Society of Home Inspectors supposedly has launched an education program for synthetic stucco. Contact them via their website, www.ashi.org, to get a referral to a synthetic stucco specialist in your area.
