Beginning The Student Loan Process

Q: Could you offer any advice for us? Our son is looking into student loans for college.

We’ve never looked into this type of thing before and don’t know where to begin! Thanks for any help.

A: The student loan process starts with the FAFSA form, which is the universal financial aid form. Go to www.ED.Gov, which is the government’s website for the Dept. of Education, and follow the clicks through. There are links for parents as well as a tutorial on the process.

If you’re looking for scholarships, fastweb.com is a good place to start, but there are other sites as well. I have some good information on this topic on my website, www.thinkglink.com. Type “scholarship” into the search engine and follow some of the links to the stories.
