Unemployment Numbers Grow on the Ilyce Glink Show September 4, 2011:

Just as it with the housing market, so goes it with the nation’s job creation: everytime we think we’ve hit the bottom, there’s a new well. Knowing how many families are struggling, it is beyond sad to watch unemployment numbers grow.

Just how bad was it in August?

  • No new jobs were created – at all. The same number of people lost jobs as those who found them. Making matters worse, the official number of jobs created was revised downward for June and July.
  • The official unemployment rate stands at 9.1 percent. There are 14 million people officially out of work and looking for a job.
  • But there’s also 8.8 million who work part-time out of necessity because they can’t land full-time employment.
  • The U-6 is tracking the full breadth of the unemployment rate at 16.2 percent. This figures encompasses the unemployed, underemployed and those who have simply thrown in the towel.

Absolutely none of this is good news. My callers, guests and I talk about this epidemic and as usual, all other housing market and personal finance news and issues.
