Holiday Shopping Tips

REM #R671

By Ilyce R. Glink

Summary: AS DISCUSSED ON THE ILYCE GLINK RADIO SHOW -- With the holiday season upon us, it's time to start looking for bargains and avoid overspending. Here are a few great holiday shopping tips that will let you give great gifts without having to run up the bills higher than you should.

The Wall Street Journal calls it "Obsessive Coupon Disorder"

(And I'm sure they mean this in the best possible way.)

Holiday shopping season officially starts this week with Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. (Black Friday is so named because this is the date that retailers traditionally begin operating in the "black," or making a profit.)

But if you're planning to profit this holiday season, you'll need to start your shopping now, and shop smart. The Internet offers deep discounts and extreme savings for bargain hunters who are savvy enough to recognize good deals and can act fast.

Here are some of the websites you should begin to monitor if you're looking for an extreme deal this holiday season:

Look for promotional coupon codes at www.couponmountain.com, www.WOW-coupons.com, www.couponcraze.com, and www.slickdeals.net.

"Stack" mail-in rebates. Look at www.fatwallet.com and www.gottadeal.com to monitor rebate forums on these two sites. Occasionally, the rebates will exceed the cost of the item.

Shop through websites that kickback a portion of the referral fee that is generated when you start shpping at their site. Membership is free. Sign up at www.fatwallet.com, www.ebates.com, www.mrrebates.com, and www.bigcrumbs.com.

Sign up for email alerts at www.fatwallet.com, and www.farealert.net to find out about expiring online bargains, and hot deals.

Other great websites for deals include www.pricegrabber.com, www.shopping.com, and www.mysimon.com. Find out what other folks think of the items you're buying at www.epinions.com.

Finally, check out www.coolsavings.com for great food coupons, as well as other great coupon deals.

Listen to the show for more great information, and have a great Thanksgiving holiday.
