Moving Household Goods
REM #A797
By Ilyce R. Glink
Summary: A mover writes in to say movers say they move household goods, not “stuff.” Moving household goods is mover jargon. Ilyce says she has “stuff” on her counter not household goods for moving.
Q: I have a comment. I enjoyed your recent article about moving. You provided really good suggestions for those thinking about moving.
I work for a moving company in Jessup, Md. I had one correction to your story: We never refer to customers’ things as “stuff.” They are goods. Keep up the great information.
A: It’s true: The official word for “stuff” in the world of moving jargon is “goods.” But I never think about the “goods” on my counter. However, I do think my “stuff” is often a mess (and my husband would agree).
I appreciate your contribution to the conversation.
