Applying for a Passport in Person

Added July 24, 2005 by ThinkGlink.com Staff

Summary: There is typically only one way to apply for a passport -- in person.

Q. Do I need to apply for a passport in person or can I apply by phone or mail?

A. All passport applicants must appear in person, with the exception of those who meet the requirements for renewing a previous passport by mail.

To qualify to apply for a new passport by mail, you must already have a passport that is not damaged and have received it within the past 15 years. You must also have been at least age 16 when it was issued; and still have the same name as in passport (or be able to legally document your name change).
