Blog: Should A $1 Million Winning Lottery Ticket Be Forfeited?

In White City, Oregon, a judge ordered a woman to turn over a $1 million winning lottery ticket, after she was found guilty of using a credit card stolen from her ex-boyfriend's mother.

Apparently, she kept using the credit card for two weeks after she won the lottery.

We had a lively discussion on air about this, with a lot of good suggestions. Most people thought the $1 million ticket should be forfeit. Some thought a trust should be set up to pay for the woman's drug rehab (she did 6 months for methamphetamine possession). Another person thought it should be forfeited and the money used to help support a great drug rehab program (whether or not the woman attended).
