In 2006, 2.5 million dads raised kids by themselves. In 1970, there were 400,000 single dads. Of all single parents today, 19 percent of them are dads.
Forty-two percent of dads are divorced; 38 percent have never been married; 16 percent are separated and 4 percent are widowed.
America has 26.5 million dads living as part of a married couple with children younger than age 18. Twenty-two percent of dads are raising three or more children younger than age 18. And 27 percent of dads earn $50,000 or more annually.
