Blog: Do you have to make a required distribution in 2009?

Added December 28, 2008 by Ilyce Glink

From Don: I've heard that the requirement to make Required Minimum Distributions from an IRA has been "waived" for calendar year 2009. I've looked diligently for confirmation of this in some official publication; but, to no avail. As I'm not a very trusting soul, could you guide me to an official confirmation of this waiver? Thanks, Don

Don (and everyone else who has to make required minimum distributions from your IRAs: You still have to make the required mandatory minimum distribution from your IRa for 2008, but the required distribution has been suspended for 2009. There's no need to take the cash out if you don't need it.
