Mortgage Interest Rate Average Falls To 4.78 Percent

Interest rates for 30-year fixed rate mortgages averaged 4.78 percent this week, according to Freddie Mac. That's down from an average 4.85 percent last week.

That's the lowest rate since 1971, when Freddie Mac began tracking mortgage interest rates on a weekly basis.

Consumer Bankruptcy Filings Increase 41 Percent In March

The number of bankruptcies filed by American consumers increased 41 percent in March compared with a year earlier, according to the American Bankruptcy Institute.

121,413 consumer bankruptcies were filed, up 24 percent from February.
