April Unemployment Lower Than Prior 2 Months

Non-farm payrolls lost 539,000 jobs in April, reports the Department of Labor today.

The unemployment figures for February and March were revised upward:

  • February 681,000 non-farm jobs were eliminated, up from 651,000 originally

Mortgage Interest Rates Rise Slightly, Reports Freddie Mac

Mortgage rates rose slightly during the week ending May 7, Freddie Mac announced today.

30-year fixed rate mortgages averaged 4.84 percent with 0.7 points down. The previous week, the average rate for this loan was 4.78 percent.

First Time Unemployment Claims Decline During Week Ending May 2

The Labor Department released unemployment data today.

For the week ending May 2 - 34,000 fewer people filed first time unemployment insurance claims. The total number, on a seasonally adjusted basis was 601,000.
