Listen to September 7 Ilyce Glink Show

Ilyce's most recent Sunday show is now available on ThinkGlink.com:

Ilyce discussed the Federal Government's takeover of secondary mortgage market giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. She took calls from listeners like Cathy, who are wondering if the takeover will have an impact on their house closings in the coming weeks. Ilyce's answer: No. She said the takeover should help get the mortgage market moving again as international investors regain confidence in the U.S. mortgage market. Ilyce also took calls from Bob about how he should put money away for his grandchild (who would be the first person in the family to go to college), and from Chris, a real estate broker for 30 years who is incensed about what has happened to the real estate market and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. She also answered questions about how to encourage an ex-spouse to refinance a loan after a divorce, whether you should stay in the stock market if you're in retirement, and other investment questions.

I believe that Legal Attorney based Loan Modifications are the best way out of this LONG SLOW TRAIN WRECK. Lenders are not Modifying unless they have to. Short Sales and REO's are killing the valuations. We need to stop the bleeding and try to maintain values. Once that happens we can put a bottom in, and start our way back up.

Listen to Ilyce's Radio Shows

I just posted three episodes of the Clark Howard Show from last week. And also the Ilyce Glink Show from this past Sunday, August 3.

Ilyce subbed for Clark on July 28-30.

You can listen to these shows online or download the MP3 file.

If you listen to the July 28 broadcast, you'll hear from Jason, a 22-year-old who failed to pay some credit card bills. The credit card company called his parents, even though they weren't co-signers and he's over 18. He wondered if he could sue the credit card company for its actions.

If you visit the July 28 entries of this blog you can find more info, including more than 40 user comments about Jason's call. And we'd love to hear what you think about his call.

Once Clark Is In The Mayor's Office...

One of Ilyce's fans sent this:

WE HAVE ADOPTED ELISE AS ONE OF OUR OWN AND WANT HER TO TAKE OVER FOR CLARK FULL TIME AS SOON AS WE CAN WHEEL HIM INTO THE MAYOR'S OFFICE. BY WHEELING HIM IN, I ENVISION HIM RIDING HIS SCOOTER WHILE DRESSED IN SHORTS AND A GOLF SHIRT. THE OUTFIT WILL NOT RETAIL FOR MORE THAN 12 DOLLARS, AND THEN WE WILL BOAST OF HAVING A MAYOR CLARK, THUS BECOMING THE CHEAPEST CITY IN THE COUNTRY.

Today on the Ilyce Glink Show July 6, 2008

Good morning, folks.

We've got a lot to talk about this morning on the Ilyce Glink Show:

* Filling up the tank just got a LOT more expensive. We've crossed over the $4 per gallon threshhold. Is there anything you can to lighten the load?

* If you don't have anywhere else to get credit, should you tap your 401(k)? Here are some things to know.

* It's the dog days of summer, what sunscreen should you use?

I hope you can join us!

BTW: If you sign up for the ThinkGlink.com free weekly newsletter TODAY (June 6th), we'll send you a free copy of my new special report, "How To Save $50 per Month." Go to the home pages at www.thinkglink.com, and sign up where it says "Newsletter."

CPSC Recalls Children's Jewelry For Lead Risk

As was just mentioned on Clark Howard's radio show, which Ilyce is hosting this afternoon and Friday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued recalls for more than 500,000 pieces of children's jewelry which contain toxic amounts of lead.

The jewelry, sold by Michael's and Big Lots as well as some dollar stores, was made in China. The CPSC has posted at least six children's jewelry recalls.

For more information, go to the CPSC recalls Web page: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/category/child.html

Yesterday's Show

I received this letter last night after the show:

I was listening today (Sunday, Aug 19-WSB) when David from San Francisco called about health care and corporate "guilt." My question,"Why are you so nice to economic and historical illiterates like David?" The man is listening to Ralph Nader and Michael Moore? Please. He has obviously been thoroughly misled and lacks reason, among his other characteristics. I guess when one is making a fool of himself you might as well let him do it. On the other hand, you could have taken that opportunity to educate listeners who might have similar ideas.

Thanks for writing. My feeling is that I don't really want to host one of those angry, screaming talk shows. I don't think a lot gets accomplished that way. I'd rather be nice and just let people have their say for 30 or 60 seconds, with the hope that they're going to say something smart. (By the way, I am rarely disappointed by what my listeners or Clark's listeners have to say).

I don't know if you caught the top of the hour, but Earl had a mouthful to say about the idea that Medicare is going to try to reduce hospital errors by refusing to pay for mistakes. He was literally screaming about it -- but he made some good points.

Finally, you have to understand how a radio talk show works. People call in and tell my producer, Crystal Wheeler, what they want to say. She then types it into a computer screen so I can see it. I then take the calls based on what they've told Crystal they want to say. If someone then starts saying something else, I have the option of simply cutting them off (which I try not to do) or listening to them to see if they make any sense at all, or if there is actually a question lost in the verbage.

Quite often, people ask questions entirely different from those they've told Crystal they want to ask -- I think it's because it's kind of new and scary to come on a radio show and people get a little startled. Earl, for example, seemed in perfect control to Crystal, but as he started to talk, he got all worked up.

To me, that's the beauty and fun about hosting a radio show. I'm glad you tuned in yesterday. Thanks for joining us.
