Q: I changed my name and wanted to change it on the title of my home. I was told that there is no mechanism to do this. According to the people I spoke with, I’ll have to wait until I sell the home.

At that time, the title company can change it to my new name, and then change it to the new owner’s name. Is this true?

A: There is no need to change your name on the title to your home. When you sell, the title company will confirm that you have changed your name (by looking at your marriage certificate and other government documents) and confirm you are you and then complete the transaction.

If you do anything else, you may just be wasting your money.
