Today we’re talking about what you might want to do to help get your kitchen in home-selling shape. Kitchens are often the geographic and emotional center of a home. If you think about it, you probably spend a lot of time in your kitchen. It’s certainly the place in my house where everyone congregates – for a party, to do homework and to see what I’m cooking for dinner.
If your kitchen doesn’t already look like it could be in “Architectural Digest” magazine, you probably need to do some work. Staging the kitchen can help you sell your home. Here’s how:
When you stage your kitchen, the goal is to allow potential buyers see is as their kitchen.
Or rather as they imagine their kitchen would look in a perfect world.
Your first is to clean and organize everything. Empty all of your horizontal surfaces like your countertops.
This means removing excess clutter, like keys, receipts, reminder notes and your vitamins.
Next, organize your cabinets. You can buy risers to help you line up your canned goods and spices more neatly.
Also you can line your cabinets with mats and stack your plates neatly and carefully.
You should sweep and wash your floor; line up the cleaning bottles underneath the sink. And if you’ve got a kitchen bookshelf, make sure to smartly arrange the items on it.
Finally, put the trash in the garbage cans outside. You don’t want prospective home buyers to be turned off by a really icky smell.
While it’s terrific to have granite countertops and all stainless steel appliances, if you can’t see any of those beautiful items because your kitchen just is disorganized and filthy,
you’re not going to be able to sell your house very easily and that’s really what you want to do.
