Thanksgiving Turkey Recipe

My Thanksgiving turkey recipe and how to save money at this year’s Black Friday sales, which are now beginning on Black Thursday. And as usual, providing personal finance advice, real estate advice and consumer advice with Ilyce Glink on the Clark Howard Show November 22, 2011 on WSB Radio.

It’s Thanksgiving week and on this week’s show, I shared my famous turkey recipe and explained how you can save money when preparing the big Thanksgiving dinner. This is part of an annual tradition for Ilyce Glink on the Clark Howard Show.

We also talked about Black Friday, the big day each year when retailers supposedly go from red to black in terms of profitability. The last six weeks of the year are traditionally big merchant moneymakers.

I also told a personal story that underlines a philosophy I have been sharing with listeners for years. A couple of weeks ago, I rented a car from Hertz that I was slated to pickup upon my arrival in San Francisco. My flight was much delayed so after arrival, I jumped in a cab to get to my lunch meeting, for which I was quite tardy. I never picked up the car.

A couple days later, I received a letter from a vendor called HertzRentalFine.com, stipulating that I owed $30 for a parking fine in Redwood City. The problem? I never went there. It turns out the car I was supposed to rent was actually stolen off the lot. After numerous phone calls to a variety of customer service departments, I was reminded of lessons I continually share with listeners:

  • Always look at your mail – This letter notifying me of the fine looked like junk, but I didn’t toss it.
  • Take care of these problem right away – before they spiral out of control.
  • Be polite but firm – Manners are important but never let up advocating for yourself. Don’t wait for someone else to do it.
