Do you work out of your home? Is your home office everything you want it to be?

More than 20 percent of Americans work from home today and that number is expected to double within 10 years. Computers and advanced electronics allow even arbitrage traders to work from the comfort of their second homes in the country as if they were right on Wall Street.

Working from home these days doesn’t just mean a beat-up desk in the basement, or a corner of the dining room table. Home builders say a home office is now the most-requested room after a family room. Developers are wiring homes for the next century, putting in everything from monster cable to high-speed video link-ups.

What experts have found is the kind of space you work in can have a big impact the success of your business. Home offices that are well-lit and well-ventilated, with ample storage spaces are offices of choice. A good view is a huge plus, as is having a separate entry.

It all comes down to feeling professional: If your home office suits you, your business will surely prosper.
