Of course, I suggested on-air that if you couldn't afford a diamond for your wife-to-be, or couldn't agree on what you would buy, then you should both go to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas and find one together! Think of the stories you'll have to tell your grandchildren someday.

This led into a conversation about how men and women think differently about money. John called to say his sister had been widowed recently, and wasn't on the deed to her house, on any of the financial accounts (except one), had been a housewife who didn't know anything about money.

I told John that she needed to take charge of her money now and that the best gift he could give his sister is to help her learn what she needs to know as she enters this new, and very difficult, time of her life.
