Career changes and happiness can be tied together. Do you listen to job advice that tells you to pursue your dreams? And as usual, providing personal finance advice, real estate advice and consumer advice with Ilyce Glink on the Clark Howard Show July 9, 2012 on WSB Radio.

I am not usually in the business of job advice or career advice but I want to start the show with the story of a woman I met yesterday, Rachel, the fiancee of my cousin Marty. My cousin will turn 40 in a couple of weeks and my mother threw a little party for the birthday guy and the happy couple yesterday.

Rachel has done something in her early 30s that most people never do. She started her career in radio ad sales, but the better she got in her line of work, the more unhappy she realized she was. She got stuck trying to figure out how to unwind. She thought and thought of a way out.

She eventually figured out a way to make the company more money while changing sales incentives and putting herself out of a job – that’s what she really wanted. Then she located her passion.

Rachel did a 180 and went to work for the youth group of which she was a part as a teenager and is now equally successful in her line of work – but much happier. And wouldn’t you know it? After making the tough decisions and righting her course…she fell in love.

What happens you you take positive steps towards your vision? Do you listen to job advice that tells you to go for it, even when the status quo is relatively comfortable? Do career changes and happiness go hand in hand?
